Well, out of the 123 books I read, only 1 got the dreaded one star. There are a few that I started but did not finish, because the content was so objectionable to me or I was just not enjoying my experience with it that I just called it quits at some point, so those will get honorable mention on this list.
DNF Did Not Finish:
- Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow (The novel that was held up as THE must read titles for gamers plays out more like a teenage soap opera.)
- Gilded (Marissa Meyer’s long start to a series about the love story of Rumpelstiltskin. Put me to sleep
- The Strange Fascinations of Noah Hypnotic (Teens behaving badly. Not my thing)
- My Dark Vanessa (Well written, but just not for me)
- Jim Carrey’s Memoirs and Misinformation (What the heck was that?)
Only 1 star book of the year:
Crossed by Ally Condie
This is the second book of the Matched trilogy, and not to get into spoilers, but this book’s action can be summed up in one word…Walking. Matched wasn’t my favorite dystopian novel, but it did have an interesting premise of society choosing who your lifelong mate will be and a protagonist that ends up sort of being matched with two different boys. It is the love triangle to the extreme, but left the characters in some interesting spots for the series to explore. But it doesn’t get into any of that. Instead, the point of view jumps between characters that are either brooding or walking to the next destination. The whole novel could have been summed up in a two page prologue in book three and it nothing critical would have been missed.
